Default Cams

Hi all,
I have a forged cdb 2.0 with Sti5 heads running an md321T turbo and am now thinking about running some 272 cams with vernier pulleys has any one done this and if so are they worth it? Would there be a noticable increase over the STD sti cams?
Thanks in advance,Kiran

The standard sti heads will not show any restrictions till you are well over 500bhp, so in a nut shell its your decision if you want do the cams.

I have 272 cams in mine and have the RCM verniers due to go in, I remember ages ago paul telling me not to bother with verniers as he said they are not out much on the STI. On an md321t I doubt I would waste my cash. If you do fit cams you would need them shimming in and say fit new valves as well so don't expect it to be cheap to swap them

So the increase over the STD sti cams would not be that much I am looking for more mid range torque rather than outright bhp.

Easier to swap/map a different turbo.

Mind you there prob aren't any better 450bhp turbos out there for low spool than the T. Maybe a SC46 Billet or a S206...........?

What about going to a 2.5 on the T?! That would surely be brilliant for mid-range AND top-end? Win-win.

You could just map the car on methanol which would give you the cheapest increase going.

the car is already mapped on 10% meth and is giving 424bhp and 415ft/lb at 1.8bar though i think that it is being held back as the 3" downpipe reduces to 2.5"at the join to the centre pipe then the centre and rear are all 3".Just always seem to be looking for that bit more and not sure if i want to go the 2.5 route. Most annoying as when I bought the car 3 years ago said that i was going to leave it std and then spoke to Simon(JGM) and now here we are today.
