Default body repairs

hi all,
had some rust on rear wheel arch on my uk terzo was gonna get round to getting it sorted, but spun the car pulling off the drive into my m8's van in the snow, putting a nice dent in rear quarter just below filler cap which has picked up a crease at bottom of it, looking at it, it appears rust has attacked the panel most of the way through so i guess filler etc is gonna be out of the question, so what i need to know is roughly whats involved to put it right and cost i mean it's not like a wing which can be unbolted and replaced is it, but what can be done to it??? cut out and a plate welded in then filled and sprayed??

Sounds like the arch is rotten so best to get the outer and inner arch cut out and new ones welded in, however this is a complex job to get right or it rots again.

Expect £350ish price for a good job.

£350 sounds a bit cheap its costing me £200 just to get little inch square done on my rear arch cutting out rust and putting bit back in your best bet is to get few quotes and check out what work the body shop has done befor because as said if its not done properly wont take long for the rust to take hold again.

filler would definately cover it, but with our winters you don't know how long this would last. Maybe a year maybe a month. My old bug eye started to rust on the outer sills, nothing major. Had it painted but they explained without replacing the arch it could happen again in same area and it did about six month later.

If you are planning on keeping the car expect to be paying around 400 sheets. If not let you are probably looking at £100.

If you can find a decent coachworks then they will be able to fit a universal patch that can be welded or bonded on then filled and smoothed - will be as strong and pukka as the original! Unfortunately everyone wants to replace whole panels these days and hard to find anyone that can match paint by eye for match-ins! My father and grandfather would have a fit - where are all the true craftsmen! Must be someone out there!!!!

Woulda taken on the business if it wasnt for a distinct dislike for being in a freezing garage with my hands in freezing water and (in this part of the world) to many grumpy pensioners with ****e cars!! hahahahahahaha!

scooby72, I take it you've never watched the incredibly addictive Wheeler Dealers then?

You're missing out, mate.
