I did hear that for my96 JDM WRX classic the fly wheel weighed in at around 12.5kg!
It is worth getting a lightened flywheel done IMO but I wouldn't go too light (torque storage capacity will suffer). Mine is a 7.5kg lightened flywheel which I've had no problems with and the driveability is still good.

Good question, I just read that there is a possiblility of this on a turbo engine as it revs too freely and the boost doesn't build up as well due to this. If that was the case though i would of thought there would of been people on here mentioning that or is it the case that it revs up quicker you don't realise the torque loss. Can anyone who has a lightened flywheel fitted add some input please and does anyone have any before and after torque figures relating to a flywheel change?
Cheers.
Cheers.

isnt it with a turbo all the powers at the top end because it has to spool up (turbo lag). but i would emagine every day driving would be poor.
where do u stand with this on a non turbo??

I followed Tracktives advice and ended up with a Kaiten 4.7kg one. My opinion? Its too light. I should have, again, stuck with my own mind and got lightened and NOT lighter.
4.7kg FFS, its a pain up the ****. I am used to it now, but I really do feel that this is one of the main reasons my car is so w4nk at 30mph in 4th gear. I have f**k all torque and bugger all rotational mass to keep the damn car going properly. 30mph is 3rd gear or get shaken to bits and get nowhere! LOL.
The worst thing is, I am damn well stuck with it.

back to the top for what
Anyways where is a good place to get these here flywheels from, looked on the clinic and it's going to cost about £800 for new clutch and lighter flywheel fitted.
The wife will not be best pleased if i tell her i need new suspension on top of this. Bought her a new hoover £330 yesterday. But this will not keep her happy for long, want a new kitchen next.

Could you maybe not buy another flywheel (heavier version) and then sell your ultra lightweight one to someone whos maybe only using there car as a race or track day car? Could get some of your money back then and your cars drivability too. Just a thought. Goodluck with it eitherway...sure it's still fun especially when you stomp on the loud peddleGareth
