i much apreciate the help lads but im still confused lol. im being told off some it will be ok and others say it wont. were could i find the spec for scoobys online so i can see if it says 95 octane or 98. i would just use super but the price attached to it is daft taking into account the mileage i do

The OEM ECU probably can retard enough to account for 95, but, personally, I don't like the idea of it. If there are things awry that could lead to det, then, if using 95, you are starting from the back foot. It makes sense to use highest octane available to give you a 'headstart' re headroom with help against possible det scenarios...
Also, if the ECU is happy to run max IAM when using 99 RON (or even 97) then it will be making as much power as possible. If it has to bring the IAM back, to a lesser or greater degree, for 95, then you won't be realising potential power/torque/drivabiity - and who wants that?
Don't forget OP, the Subaru engine tends to give slghtky better mpg on higher octane, so goes some way to offsetting the cost of the stuff anyway!...

mine has seemed to be running fine on 95 untill today when i changed my panel filter for a green cotton one.
since ive done that the turbo doesnt kick in until way after 3500 revs, and before it used to come in at 2500revs.
any ideas?!

I've been running a non turbo blobeye wagon for over a year now on 95 ron and have had no problems whatsoever - it's always been accelerating very smoothly and quickly for a N/A engine, throughout the entire rev range. I once filled it with 97 ron and TBH didn't really notice any difference in performance.

I have a classic n/a and mine seems to be happy enough on the cheap stuff (if only the cheap stuff was actually cheap 1.16 down my neck of the woods lol) i once filled up with vpower and the car felt a bit strange. Stick to normal me thinks

I asked a similar question and was told that the 10 year old knock sensor may be failing and whilst not causing any obvious problems (pinking) it may be causing unseen harm.
The handbook with mine does say it will run fine on 95 Ron/normal unleaded.
But my understanding is that running on 97 or even better 99 Ron will give improved performance and possibly improved mpg over 95 Ron.
I use a mix but mostly V-Power (Shell is nearest station, and always has V-Power) but wouldn't worry about having to fill up with 95.
