Smile info needed for project please?

right guys here we go, i have a v1 sti and have a v3 block with v5 heads to go in already built up.
now i have a v5 inlet manifold, fuel rails and loom but need to no if this is going to work? I know i have to do a wasted spark conversion which is currently being looked into but need to know if it will work otherwise ? there are also 3 vacum inlets/outlets in the centre of the manifold and 1 on the rear left branch of the manifold as you look at the front of the car which i need to find out where they go to and from?

also i know the polarity of the tps is the oposite to a v1 so can a mapper change this ?

sorry for all the questions but just need as much info as i can get to do the job properly or differently?

any help would be much appreciated

Hi James,

There are a few areas that need resolving..

The idle valve / stepper motor is different between v1 and v5
the throttle position sensor works in reverse as you mention
the v1 has coil on plug coilpacks the v5 has a coilpack with ht leads.

assuming the engine is standard and not forged and you intend running meduim power (in the 300s)?
I would use v1 coils, the TPS can be wired the opposite way around if you get a v5 engine loom the plugs can be used and the wiring changed fairly obvious and can be check in ecu and soldered up at time of mapping.

So the main issue is idle control.. the v5 stepper motor can have the insides removed and a hose fitted and the v1 idle valve used with an adaptor plate.
You could run with no idle valve.. it will run a slightly higher idle held on the throttle butterfly and be a pig when cold. . so far from ideal.. lol

you could use a top notch ecu which will control a v5 stepper motor..

As to vaccum take offs.. it matters not whcih is connected to what as long as anything that needs a vaccum gets one..

Depending on the ecu used you can do away with purge solenoid and save one vac connection etc..

You'll need fuel pressure reg, map sensor, dump valve (if using one), purge solenoid if needed.

hi simon

yes will be medium 300s, didnt think v1 coils fit v5 heads do they?

i have the loom for the inlet manifold (v5) is this what i need ?

i have an apexi power fc going on to be mapped and is the idle control something that you could do? (sounds bit beyond me )lol

map sensor i have, no dump valve is being used and need fpr.

the v5 heads have the bolt hole for v1 coilpacks 99.9% sure.

yes inlet manifold loom

so you need to fit a v1 idle valve to for the apexi to work it.

you need to take the insides out the v5 stepper motor and get an adaptor made for the v1 idle valve to fit a pipe onto it and then run a pipe from one to the other etc..

right update

have now decided to go without a icv and see how it goes when its mapped . Then if its too much of a pig i can just put a icv back on.

checked earlier and coil packs def fit v5 heads so its just putting it back together and a few more parts now hopefully.

would this be ok to map without an icv?
