Unhappy It wasn't a boost problem

I have a version 4 sti.

I've just had a H&S decat pipe, new radiator, coil pack, ngk7 plugs, and performance leads fitted.

Now the car comes in and out of boost. 1st and 2nd gear aren't to bad but 3rd, 4th and 5th are awful. The boost comes in, then leavesand then comes back.

I've bought a new 3 port boost solenoid and fitted it today. That still hasn't helped.

It's booked into subaru4you tomorrow but only for half an hour to see if they can find out what's wrong with it.
I've never used them before so if anyone has any reccomendations for them i'd be greatful.

I took it back to the place where they fitted the above things but couldn't see me for at least 10 days.

Any ideas anyone?

cheers Mark

Try resetting ECU to see if that sorts it.

You sure it's boost and not inaudible missfire?!.... I would revert back to OEM HT leads...

Recheck plug gaps too.

Thanks for that.

Resetting ecu? Unplug it and then plug it back in? Am i right in thinking it's somewhere behind the glove box?

I'm not sure it's boost. It's just what it feels like. It seems as if i can hear sucking air when i put my foot down. I've checked all the pipes as best i can. Just really frustrated after spending over 1k it's now worse off

Disconnect batt for 1/2hr or more to drain capacitors down... or reset it the proper way:-

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / ECU Reset

Was the coilpack a brand new one? Or a second-hand replacement of unknown condition?!

BTW, you really should get your air-fuel ratios checked if you've bunged on a decat without mapping it.

Coil pack was brand new. Didn't think it would be worth risking asecond hand one.

I shall def try that. I took the car to cp autos in bristol and would hope they would have done that but proberly not. Had a new standard panel filter at the same time.

I'm just scared to death they'll say you need to replae the ecu as i know for my car it's going to be avout 1k through jgm.

Just got back from subaru4you.

Wasn't too sure about the place when i pulled up but the mechanic i spoke to was good as gold.

He thinks it's some sort of connection problem whether it's plugs, leads or coilpack etc..

They were very upfront and advised me to take it back to where the work was done, otherwise he would have to go over everything they had.

So, another question. Anyone had this sort of problem?

And the answer was......

Thought it best to update you all. After i informed the mechanic that i had brand new leads and plugs etc he was scratching his head with the problem.

It turned out the leads are total pants and can't handle high boost. He said they are some of the worst he's ever seen and they've even split within about 300 miles.

To name and shame the company Ignition leads - performance ignition leads UK i'm very upset as they stated numerous things such as capable of handling 600bhp etc. Used on rally cars.

Haven't got the car back yet but the mechanic is saying it's running beautifully.

Thanks for all your help guys, again........

Yep. When it comes to leads and fuel/oil filters... stick to OEM.

Even the OEM paper air filter is very good.
