Default Engine Management Light - 02 Bug STi ???

Hi guys

went on a spirited drive about 2 weeks ago and put foot down and engine management light came on at 6k rpm.

stays on permenantly now. checked code. it says poo31 ho2s heater control circuit low bank sensor 1.

cleared code and it came back on within 5 mins..cleared it again and let it idle, stilll comes back on even without driving it..

been on for last 2 weeks, cant say ive noticed a difference in performance, what could this be?.. lamda probe covered in soot?

its a decatted 02 bugeye.. drives perfect.

anyone had similar?

i cleverly put a classic downpipe and exhaust on , so the lambda probe is harder to get to lol as its at the top under intercooler, i now wish i had the newage downpipe as i could have got to it from jacking the car up.

cheers

Defo, lambda sensor! I've just had one replaced, exactly same fault code! Can't be cleared unless sensor replaced or cleaned up.

£340 new from subaru , about £100 second hand , try breakers or API sometimes have second hand ones ,different to classic lamda , and people report universal ones don't work .

Original denso part and direct fit, ive had one in two years now without any problems

Best thing to do is ring the guy with the o/e part number which i dont have to hand right now

Would be worth seeing if anyone close to you may allow you to try there one in your car to confirm etc?

A lot of money if it's not the problem etc.

Nice idea but there not so easy to get out being at the collector aspecially if its been in there a while> More often then not they get mullered if removing them while the headers are in place.

i'll have a look at the wiring..

also i have a classic fitment downpipe and exhaust on, which means if i remmebr correctly the lambda probs is at the top of the downpipe. might be able to get to it if i take the IC off.

also i assumed when decatting the lamda probe did nothing? is that not the case with scoobys?

my previous cars, albeit none scoobys never had them plugged back in once decatted. i guess since none of those were remapped like this, the parameters have been changed so it should work as normal on the scoob

This CEL code indicates a problem with the front (located in the exhaust manifold) O2 sensor heater. Either wiring is damaged or the sensor is bad. I bet it's the sensor itself. Your car needs this sensor to be operational, so check Aztec website for a new one.

yeah thats the sensor i thought it was..

i'll check the wirring as ive got a classic fitment downpipe which moves it to the top of the decat downpipe. so ive stretched the wirring around the gearbox to plug it back in.. i'll see if its connected properly.

plus clean it up, probs got soot on it from all the pops and bangs..

if it doesnt resolve i'll buy that sensor £60 is not bad

cheers

Have you changed the headers as well> it would be unsusual to swap from headers to downpipe.

Its a wideband sensor in the headers which is why universal ones wont work and why there so expensive from a main dealer

and i suspect the one in the link wont work as its a down pipe sensor. reads in a different way

In that case the o2 sensor is in the headers pre turbo

Im gonna assume youve put the one from the bottom of the downpipe in the top of the downpipe? which isnt a problem, but the code your getting is for the one in the headers a

is it easy to find? and yes the one in the downpipe has been moved to the top.

so the code isnt relating to that one? correct?

your correct, the error code is relating to the one in the headers. can just be seen if you look from the top drivers side right down to the bottom of the engine at the bottom of the up-pipe> The wiring bracket for it is bolted to one of the coil packs> the best accessed from underneath or as i did remove the wheel and inner plastic wheel arch>

sounds a good idea but let me tell you there not so easy to get out> think it took me about two hres to remove it just coz it was siezed in and there not so easy to get at> i seem to recall i ended up cutting the top of it so i could get a decent spanner on it>

As its showing a heater fault on it id be inclined just to replace it

ok had a tackle at this and gave up, really is a pain and not worth taking off its that stuck, best replace it, if i take it off.

just a quick question. what does it do? and would it cause the car any harm to continue driving it before the sensor is changed? probs wont be changed for another 2 weeks. drives and pulls the same
