i have read and heard a lot lately about people removing oe dv and blocking off the pipes, i currently am running a simtec, full decat, fmic, apexi induction kit on a 1993 wrx, what benefit if any would i get from doing this? can this cause damage, or is just about the noise.

something else to do , just got to have simtec tweeked a bit as had faulty coilpacks, so once finished should be fun, with afterburner downpipe+vortex center and backbox loud as well .

Go for it! i ran my TD04 with out DV for quite a long time and it fluttered a bit but didn't sound very cool, now its got a VF23 and alot more boost and its hardly makes much noise at all!! standard air box, just green filter which is proabably why, or maybe the TD series are bit more vocal ;-) i'm going back to re-circ as apparently VF series arn't as tough... i recon it would actually be fine with number of miles i do but i may aswell as not getting good sound now anyway
