I think the weight is correct i.e. the New Age takes 5W-30 or 5W-40 (can you actually get a 35?!).

It's just that Magnatec isn't recommended for the Subaru EJ engine...

Yep 10w/40 on a newage should be OK, but 5w-40 would be better still. 15w/50 shouldn't be used on a newage - possibly on a classic with high milage.

Nothing wrong with 15/50 in any engine.

Been told by more than 1 tuner it's too thick for the Newage Impreza's and can cause issues especially in the colder weather

That oil doesn't exist. Nor does that grade. (5/35). Magnatec is semi synthetic (although their 5w-30 grade does say on the bottle "Fully Synthetic Technology" - its actually still part synthetic )

It'll either be 5w-30, 10w-40 or 15w-40

Subaru do state that 5w-30 semi synthetic conforming to A1 spec is suitable for normal road use in a UK spec MY02 STi; This will be Magnatec 5w-30

However if you drive hard or modify, you may want to consider a different oil or do 6monthly/5K oil changes instead of the quoted 12month/10K intevals
