Is dry cranking a good idea then? Should you have the oil warm when doing it?

Thanks

By dry cranking I assume you mean turning motor over on the starter only, with no fuel/spark happening?

If so, dry crank by first removing the crank sensor... or... running a length of wire from positive on batt to the switch terminal on the starter.

Oil will be at room or ambient temp and thick (aids with building pressure anyway) - as you will have just poured in new stuff...

I'm not sure, my94wrx will need to answer that!?

I mean when removing the oil from the sump should you let your car run a bit to warm the oil up so it comes out easier?

Thanks

Oh right. Yeah THAT'S not dry cranking lol

Yes defo get the engine up to normal operating temp before an oil change - it'll come out much faster therefore quicker. And more will come out too.

Food for thought,

1. run engine to warm oil to let it flow better/get more out.

2. Change oil after car standing over night as oil will have drained back to the sump overnight.

Always wondered if 2 was a good way to drain oil, as 1 will fill the lifters/oilways and will take a while to drain down,

Also with 1 theres more chance of dropping the oil plug into the collecting pan because its too hot to handle, lol

I'd rather do it hot - get more of the old oil out and quicker too lol
