hi there fellow scooby owners i reacently brought a subaru impreza wrx turbo on a 2000 plate with 27000 miles on the clock and just wondering when cambelts are due on these in the service history it says 1 was done at 8000 miles please can any 1 help ?
cheers martin
i was speaking to someone and they was saying every 3 years or 40k whatever comes first do you think it would be worth getting it done or will it be a waste of time ?
If you have got the money and the time i would do it for sure as a cambelt change is alot cheaper than a re-build when the cambelt snaps because you didnt have it changed..

wow thats low miles for a 2000 plate did you get it for a good price
In 8 years of working on Imprezas, I've never known of a cambelt to 'just snap' (yet )
Plenty of water pump, tensioner or idler failiures though.
Ah yeah im nt saying it would but there is always the chance and like i said the price of a belt compared to a re-build i know which i would reather pay for..
cheers every 1 how much roughly do you think it will cost me ?just that i just brought the car so bit skint for the next couple of months also where could any1 recomend somewhere i can have it done im based it epsom surrey
i paid a bit over the top i gave the bloke 5000 for it but it is mint and with the low milage i will have it for the forseable future
Not bad really like considering the very low miles get that belt changed for peace of mind as you dont want to be paying for a rebuild as-well when it could be avoided
The belt on it would have been changed at 4 years, in this case 8,000 miles.
The current belt has done 19,000 miles and 6 years. The belt should be fine - but, it would cost £150 all in to get done ... the tensioner and idlers should be fine at that mileage.
In the USA the belts have to last for 100,000 miles by law.
Up to you if you change or not, it's very unlikely to snap any time soon. As said above, Subaru belt snaps are very rare ..... for yours to snap would be even rarer!
