Default Replacement Key

My 2004 Scooby only came with one key, after being scared to death by the stealership (£250 for a new key) i ordered one from ebay & a new blade, i am going to get the new blade cut but how to i get the immobiliser bit reprogrammed, read in the alarm book you can do it but does anyone know if this also does the transponder.

Thanks

Boab

The immobiliser in the key is nothing to do with the (Sigma) alarm. The bad news is that you'll need your main dealer to program the immobiliser to accept the transponder in the new key - although it's also possible that EcuTeK or open sauce mappers might be able to do it.

most decent lock smiths will cut and copy the info from your key transponder and reprogram it to a new key, this normally costs around £50/60

That tends not to apply to most of the newer Imprezas. After a certain point they can't be done by a locksmith as it isn't the key that gets reprogrammed, it's the immobiliser that gets told to accept the (fixed) code in the new key.
