What Version heads have you got and what power are you aiming for ??

Version 1~2 had hydraulic heads, STi 3~6 have underbucket shims.
Original STi 2 hydraulic lifters are lightweight items approx. 10g lighter than the WRX one's.
STi V2 RA had Top Hat inner shims.

Hydraulic lifters run with pre-load against the cam and the solid lifters run with lash/clearance - the cam profiles are different in respect to the ramp rates/acceleration and you cant normally fit solid lifter cam's to hydraulic valvetrain.

Hydraulic lifters also tend to be inconsistant due to the effect of the oil temp/viscosity,pressure and rpm so are not really suited to 'big power' engines.

Indeed....i cannot even scale how much Mick has helped me and continues to do so.....i wouldn't have half the knowledge about subarus including V3-4 heads if it wasn't for him...

Would be good if you could get some pictures on here Matty (as discussed) and some outer dimensions on these lifters. Just so we can see what has actually happened and if they are Phase1 (i'm assuming they are).

Mick surely if these are Phase 1 hydraulics would they have not been a very loose fit within the bucket seat of the v4 heads?

Thanks for the kind words Guy's - not been on SN for a while due to personal problems but ......... off the top of me head, the Hydraulic lifters are approx.
29.95mm O/D and the STi solid lifters are 32.95mm - so yes Baly, bit of a **** in a sock job if they are Version 3~4 heads.

A quick check would be a feeler blade between the cam lobe base and lifter to see if you have clearance or not.
