Default Problems removing rear indicator bulb

After a glorious week of snowboarding in Val D'Isere I came back to my impreza to discover that the rear passenger side indicator bulb had died. Now my question is, how do I remover the bulb from the indicator/reverse/break light housing?

I can see a white cap attached to the bulb which states turn clockwise to lock. However it refuses to budge in any anticlockwise direction What is the technique from removing this white plastic cap (and hence the bulb) from the housing? Or do I have to remover the whole unit?

Thanks

(I have a Japanese Import wrx/sti 1996 Wagon)

Should just turn out. Give it a bit of a wiggle as you do, it might have been forced in without being flush, distorting the fixings.
