Default "Check engine"???

Hi, Can anybody give me a slight clue as to why my "check engine" light comes on after driving for 20 minutes + ? It has recently been serviced so nothing is low......
I have a 1994 STI import. Any help, would be appreciated.
Thanks x

Welcome

Could be several reasons, does your car have any modifications and what fuel do you run it on?

Your decat may be causing it, super is good no unleaded though (tesco 99 or shell v power are the best dont put bp crap in though ) and really on an import you need some form of knock detection (its getting expensive already ) Phormula - Engine Knock, Detonation and Pre-Ignition Detection and Monitoring Systems for a ks3

Also check out here for how to check the ecu codes, fairly easy to do, should give you an idea of what "may" be causing the issue

Wouldn't the decat put the "cat on fire" light on the dash? Wouldn't of thought it would be on the error codes.

It could be causing det (knock) and causing the cel to come on.

Ah! Be interesting to see if the knock sensor error turns up then.

hi just go to this link on scoobypedia Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes

and it tells you in detail how to read your fault codes by yourself and what the codes meen
its just a case of connecting 2 wires under the dash

personally it wont be your fuel if your running super unleaded as thats a good thing , and if your not caning the **** off the car you shouldnt need any fuel additives , just make sure pref your running good fuel like said v power from shell or 99 from tesco

bp ultimate is crap stay well clear

bp102 , £2.50 a litre and is only availbale at few bp stations around the uk , u could count on two hands how many bp garages have bp102 and a member of staff has to put the fuel in for you ? bp at the forth road bridge has it thats were i get it

the £2.50 a litre is a killer though , would really stick 2 v-power especially as u get that distinct smell from the v-power lol smells good lol

i know off three people who use it mate and it was a tip to say that bp sell 102 octane and i recomended sticking to the v-power ???? as i stated THE PRICE IS THE KILLER ???

102 octane fuel will make ur engine last longer in theory btw as theres a lot less chance of det/knock with tesco than bp102 and thats not that im saying tescos is **** coz its not , im saying bp102 u could do a lot more with that IF u want to spend the money

think u need to read posts fully before u post ur own comments mate as i use v-power constantly also so i do HAVE A GRIP i was only suggesting that 102 was available as i have spoke to numerous people who dont know it exists ? and it is in term more a '' racing fuel ''

John, a bottle of octane booster is less than 5 quid and gives you 2 ron, a tank full of 102 is 120+ quid and gives you 2 ron, so v power and octane booster will save you around 60 quid

So, i done the ecu testing thingy under the dash board and its showing as the Air Flow meter. Have googled it and all systoms seem to tie up to what happening with the motor at the moment. Any advice on where to get a cheap one from, bearing in mind my scoob is an import???

Mafs are all the same for that era (any turbo impreza between '93-'96: WRX, UK or STI has the same) - all with the green label as yours should be if standard (the code on your label will be something like 22680 AA160 A36-000 R60).

No more than £40ish second hand as a guide - buy off a forum regular (I'd trust ebay seller if loads of 100% feedback).

I think if the maf doesn't work, i'll have to look at getting a cat back it and hopefully that'll do the job. Thanks
