Hi, Wanting more info on the above turbo who's got 1 had 1. What power did you get and with what mods. When did you get full boost, when did boost drop off. Was looking at a vf35 but my thinking is this will be better.

These turbo's are suppose to spool up very quick! I was very suprised at one point when i came across this impreza that was doing some excellent 1/4 mile times. After speaking to the owner i found out he was using a hybrid VF22 which is suppose to be similar to the TD04.



Power wise: 315-320

Spool up: 2400rpm

With some decent mapping boost can be held upto 7000 RPM

 

I beleive DSPEED has a hybrid TD04

 

I would like to know this also, as debating loads at the moment.

Hi

I've been running an AF TD04 hybrid for 2 years now.
I made the figs below on the delta dash(313/302 and 300/308) when I had an Ecutek map but I'm running Simtek now so don't have any up to date figs but power will most likely be unchanged as I've not changed any major supporting mods since it was remapped on the Simtek
I believe it can make slightly more power but I'm more than happy with the way Andy has mapped it.
It has virtually no noticeable lag and can maintain boost for longer than the std td04,feels very smooth and progressive but having driven scoobs with TD05's,VF34'S and TD05 20g is a completely different drive to them all
Along with the other supporting mods and because my car is stripped out makes for a very responsive set up.

relevent modifications are:

Simtek ECU
Andy Forrest AFP04-H custom ported hybrid turbo
Revolution 3 inch downpipe
Buddy Club Spec IV 3 inch system
STI V8 TMIC
Exedy 5.75kg lightened flywheel
GFB lightweight 3 pulley underdrive set
Walbro 255l Fuel pump
K and N Apollo and custom intake
Samco induction,turbo and coolant hoses

 

What revs does the boost drop off and what does it drop to, different to the other turbos in what way.

it feels a lot more progressive and smooth in delivery if that makes sense in that it has less lag but the power does not come in as agressively
ok it does not make potentially as much power as the vf34 or td05 but it retains all the responsivness of the oe td04 but with more torque and a longer power curve..a good balance i think
drops off at 6k + but as said comes in at less than 2.5k rpm
basically i am more than happy with it and it suits my set up and usage of the car etc
i also had the scoob ecutek mapped with exhaust,decat and filter on the oe td04 and that managed about 275/270 iirc but the std td04 really runs out of the steam at that point and does not maintain boost at higher levels
im sure there are a few with td04 hybrids on here and tbh not really had any negative reports about it
im sure andy f would give you somemore feedback if you drop him a short email

I love mine, need a few more supporting mods to reach the 320 I want. 300 currently. I find the main advantage is the zero lag and not having to keep the revs up while not knowing wts round the corner. Less important on track but great for a naughty road car.
No nasty boost kich either.

 

Just taken mine off ready to sell.(Andy Forest)
Power was 319bhp/308lbs.
It reached full bhp @ 6200rpm and max lbs @ 4400rpm.
It never went below 1 bar of boost from 3200rpm to off the rolling road scale page which was 7500rpm.+

Well the cars first owner has an SR40 on it,and it made 414bhp.@1.35 bar
But the owner i bought it off 'demodded' it a bit and put on the TD04.
I bought the car with this on it.....not for long...lol
I then bought a MD321T but when the MD321X came along last week,it had to be done.
Neither MD has/was fitted as the TD04 only came off at the weekend.....

 

mmm thats certainly a drastic 'demod' (dont think i have heard that very often )
if it has the potential for that much more dont think i would leave it for long

Yeah,he took off turbo,injectors,3.5 inch exhaust,gems ecu and coilovers,and replaced to standard....but left the 2.2 built lump....
Getting it back to better than it ever was now.....

 

fanastic base to work from,mild amount of jealousy
its good that you can progress it how you want it though knowing the end result will be worth it
i dont think i would ever be happy buying a car with all the work done already either
so then what are your full plans to supplement the short motor

Sounds like the hybrid is the next turbo for me, cheers for all the replys.

 

Yeah,luckly most the internal engine work has been sorted,so its just the fun bits to do......
The list of mods are below,around half of which were already done to the car(mainly engine internals and brakes),and nearly every other mod that ive bought has been 2nd hand or reduced,so have saved a lot through being patient,but the mod list is still over 17k!
Just need to get larger fuel pump,solaris,twin plate clutch,and get the lot put on,and were there...........will be a year of waiting,so rather looking forward to it.
