Normal wrx has an open deck block and cast pistons, uk STI has a semi closed deck block and forged pistons, bigger injectors, bigger intercooler, etc, lots of differences but what do you want to know specifically?

Do all STI's have forged pistons?
I was under the impression that had to be done later on.

New age STI engines have AVCS, the wrx's dont so its hard work doing anything like that, pistons should be a direct fit though

Not all, some new age ones have hypereuetic pistons which are cast though still very strong, rods on classics are very weak though compared to new age cars, and not all forged pistons are the same quality

Hawkeye sti's have hypereuetic pistons, not as strong as the forged pistons due to their design, the jdm 2ltr cars of the same year have stronger pistons.
