Engine mod query - help please?
Some of you will know I'm modding a MY05 STi. Turbo, injectors, CAI, etc.
As part of these mods I have an APS cold air intake and it'll be connected via silicone hoses to my turbo. These hoses don't have any connections for breather pipes and so I will need an oil catch tank. I'm working on the car right now and I've got a wee question for those in the know. Looking at this photo, I've circled a valve which has a pipe coming from the old air intake pipe, one straight into it from the manifold, then another which goes to a small solenoid valve which is under and behind it and can't be seen in the pic.
What is this set up for?
I have no connection for the pipe marked in the photo which was connected to the old intake pipe, what do I do with it?

I also have a problem with the following
In the pic, the pipe circled, attaches to the original intake. Again, I have no connections on my new intake pipe and this pipe leads to what I think is the boost solenoid, arrowed in the pic but hiding behind a plate. What is this pipe's purpose and what can I do with it now?

Looking at both issues above I'm now thinking that both pipes are vents.
The top one above is a fuel vapour vent I believe, being vented into the air intake so any fumes are taken safely into the engine and burnt.
I reckon the pipe from the boost solenoid is also just a vent for what is being bled off from the compressor to wastegate pipe, again vented into the air intake to probably keep it quiet and clean?
Hope someone can agree with this?
My original thinking was that there was some sort of vacuum required/involved but the air intake, pre turbo, wouldn't really be a vacuum although it is under suction of a kind.

Are you sure you mean a cold air intake not a turbo charger inlet pipe? As if you have the CAI it fits on the end of the black pipe where you removed the pipe from the airbox. It does not fitdirectly to the turbo.
