Default Engine Check Light coming On...

Hi guys, been having a problem lately with my 03 Sti's CEL light coming on, then after a few days going back out

when it first came on i took it to my mates garage, he put dignostic machine on it and fault was reading Misfire on Cylinder 1, he took it a spin, had a good listen but said (i agree) that the car drives fine and isnt misfiring, so he cleared the code.

That was fine for a few days then it comes back on again, so checked again, same error. I got him to change the plugs and clear the code, again this lasted a few days then bloody light comes on again, it stayed on for a few days then i noticed it went back out again

Now wait for it, yup, fookn thing came back on again, same bloody fault code, this time i didnt take it back to him and again it went out after a few days. Its now back on again so im wondering if i should change the coil packs, i really cant afford to, but its starting to really **** me off.

Do any of you guys have any idea what might be causing this??

Any help would be appreciated...

Cheers, Lee

Does the car audibly misfire when the CEL is illuminated?

This code can sometimes be shown when there is a faulty Neutral Position Sensor

Find somebody who can datalog the OE ecu, and they should be able to confirm if this is the problem or not.

Their is defo no sign of any audible misfire. Do you know where the Neutral Position Sensor is located and what exactly does it do? could it be a loose connection perhaps?? Im not sure of anyone in the glasgow area who could carry out the datalog though

I will check the battery connections tomorrow just incase.

Rather than changing coilpacks - swap a couple around and do a reset to see if the problem moves with it.
