can any one help
hi all my classic has a problem at the moment, kept losing and gaining revs and check engine light was up on dash so took it up to dave green @ henstead motorsport and he checked ecu and came up with throttle position sensor which would explain it so they replaced it went to pick it up the next day and started the car and check engine light came back on but the rev problem was sorted so he plugged it back in to ecu checker and now coming up with injector number 4 but car is running ok apart from using a load of fuel and stinking of fuel to, surely if the injector has failed it would be running on 3 and would run like poo, Spoke to Dave @ Henstead and he said he has seen this alot and even after changing injector fault check engine light is still there ???? Can anyone shed any light on this situation and why my car is doing it??? I Have since ran a cleaner through fuel system and not really made any difference i was then told it is a common thing on the classic model and that hammonds do a software update which is needed on the ecu aparantly for £46 but i have since been told that ecu on classic are non changeable???
What model and year impreza is it?
UK or JDM?
I've never heard of a software update on classics (that doesn't mean it doesn't exist though).
You can check the error codes yourself Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / ECU
You could always disconnect the battery for an hour or so to rest the ecu then see what happens.

right i have just been out to try and reset the ecu but where it says there are 2 green and 2 black connectors under the dash black being read and green being test i only have black so i cant try that hmmmm
You should definately have two green ones as well. Keep looking they are in there. I've not heard of an update either, If this is an error that's come up recently and not in the whole time you've had the car then you clearly have a fault somewhere.
Edited to add: When they fail they normally stick open. Try changing the injector.

Only two of those black connectors fit eacother. The green connectors are in there, right up in the depths of the wiring, probably taped together with so much tape you can't see them properly. Keep looking!!...The force is with you KT
If you get really stick give Duncan (Dynamix) a shout. He's not far from you i don't think and he might be able to take a quick look if he's passing by sometime. A reset may just sort out the dashboard CEL.

As has been said, the green ones will be there somewhere. However, as you've also said, you only need the black connectors to read the ECU's trouble code memory. Connect them, turn the ignition on, and tell us what the flash sequence on the check engine light does.
i have had the ecu checked at dave greens and i know the fault is injector number 4 but i want to reset the ecu as the car does not seem to have a problem but light is still on. just trying to find the greens but i am now back indoors as its to cold lol
