Default WRX with STi badging?

hey all, yesterday i was having a look at a 97 impreza the owner is selling as an STi. it was convincing that it was indeed an STi because of all the badging and work (kit, seats, lights) and everything that's been done to it.

however, on getting home i have been online and have a few questions. does the 97 STi:

- come with the DCCD or is it on later models?
- have the water spray for the intercooler?

please help before i buy a WRX thinking it's an STi

Default wrx or sti?

this might sound silly but how about getting an insurance quote most online quotes tell you the model after putting the reg in. i was looking at an impreza which was being sold as a wrx sti, phoned up for insurance n they sed it was a uk turbo.

Just check the applied model code under the bonnet on the passenger side suspension strut and cross reference it with all the model codes you will find out for sure that way

Water spray is also on Type R and STI RA.

Was the inlet manifold red?
Were the dials white with STI on them?

yes on both. the manifold was red. the dials had STi on them. however, the backlight on the dials are blue. the owner said he'd changed them from the original colour.
