New with scoobys and need help!!
Hi guys!
Just got a impreza turbo 96 jap import, and it was real jumpy at 3000rpm and the revs would drop and sometimes cut out. Ive done the self diagnostics and it came up with....22,23,31,42. so its Knock sensor, MAF sensor, Throttle Position Sensor Circuit, Idle switch. Are these costly and hard to replace?? Id rather try replacing them myself, im not 100% on car mechanics lol. But i have a good understanding of what goes where etc...
Advice plzzzzz!

I'd replace the Knock Sensor and MAF first, then reset the ecu to if any of the remaining codes reappear.
I quite often see TPS and Idle switch fault codes appearing when other proprietary sensors go down.

No budget just will get bits as I go sorta thing...work, get a part, work...etc Ive been advised by ESL mapping to get a 3bar map sensor to allow mid ranged boost to be increased over 1.1 bar before I have it mapped. Any ideas where I can find one at a decent price?

Decat downpipe
Cat-back SS exhaust
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Fresh NGK PFR7B plugs
Fresh OEM paper panel (or Green/K&N/Apexi panel)
Fresh OEM fuel filter won't go amiss either.
Remap on ESL Live (from dynamix - can get a MAFless version of it too!!!)
Remapped to 1.15bar will yield around 280bhp/270lb ft. Won't need to replace MAP just yet, as the TMIC and 380cc injectors wil be limiting. If you did get a 3bar one the mapper might be able able to map 1.3bar in the low-mid range, but will prob drop to 1.1bar from around 4.5k>on rpm.
Thing is your 1996 car already has c.256bhp, so gains not as great as if it were starting off as a 237bhp MY93/94 WRX... or indeed a 217bhp Wagon!
Can of course go further and get that 3bar MAP, FMIC, 550cc inj., CAIK, all mapped for around 310-330+ bhp...
If you have the funds........

Yeah, no problem in fitting the Walbro now. I believe the ECU easily compensates the for the extra pressure arriving at the injector valve.
In fact it's very much a positive thing to do, as your existing 13-14yo OEM pump is probably down on voltage and delivering less than ideal fuel-flow/pressure. Means it'll give you peace of mind when on boost, as you'll be safe in the knowledge that the Walbro will be 'delivering' and not cause the fuelling to run lean.
Can also fit the plugs, fuel filter, air filter and cat-back system if you want, but I'd play safe and just fit the Walbro and/or plugs/fuel filter at this point.
Best to fit the air filter/system/decat just prior to mapping, just to err on the safe side. I assume you will be mapping, later?

Il look into getting this walbro soon along with new plugs and filters. Is the walbro hard to fit?. Il be getting the ESL after ive fitted those parts...Recieved my maf today, fitted and reset the ecu and it was fine for about an hr. Then the dreaded CEL came on and it showed code 22 (knock sensor) , so this is the next thing on my list lol. After the engine is all sound im planning on having a touch up or full respray (not sure yet). The car has got a deep key scratch going all around the car from the previous owner. Do you know of any good car sprayers in the midlands??

I'd rate the pump as a "2-3 spanner" Haynes rating. Use the search facility and search fo "fuel pump removal" or similar - there's bound to be loads of threads about it. It's reasonably straightfoward.
For paint, I use a local old bloke near to me, who has his one-man business (him!). He's okay (not fantastic), cheap(ish)... BUT... he can take ages (being one man, and in demand).
For a big scratch like that, I'd seriously source a proper, well-established professional paintshop - anything less than a totally professional job on something like that, then you'll notice everytime you look at the car!
