Depends what you want from the car really as the ecus you mention cannot be remapped without the addition of a daughter board (Enduring Solutions Limited) and tbh to get the best out of the mods a remap would be your best bet.
Have a look here for nearly all the options avaliable www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk
If you just want a cheap upgrade then the Z4 or 6K ecu (although when i put the 6K ecu in my 93wrx came up with a MAP sensor fault although i do know a few people who haven't had any problems)

Just buy the Polarperformance chip as it will override the standard map of any ecu it's fitted to so there is no point in buying an ecu and chip.
Many people have had good results with them.
The early wrxs are good cars i thoroughly enjoyed mine for 6 years (it was running about 270bhp) so don't be disappointed with it the early STIs aren't imo much better, after 1997 is when they started making the better classic impreza.

I used to have a polar performance chip and similar mods to you , and my car went well , ideally you want a remap to get the best out of it , but you can get PP chip and put it in your standard ecu , mine was fine with the PP chip and lots of people reccommend them/run them on here. ,
hope this helps

Nobody has mentioned ESL for V.1 and V.2 classics...shame on you!!
Forget a generic chip when you can have a full custom remap solution like ESL.
A daughterboard is fitted to your ECU which allows your ECU to be fully custom mapped on the road for exactly your modifications and any fuel or fuel mixes you like. You can go MAFLESS as well which removes the limitations and falability of the standard MAF if your engine is built to take big power. You can also have Launch Control and Flat Foot Shifting (Anti-Lag). You can have switchable maps too allowing you to have a map for normal fuel and one for a fuel mix, or a winter and summer map, it's up to you.
A generic tuned chip wherever it comes from can't do any of that and you can't fine tune it for your mods either. With any scoob it's important to have it tuned properly to get the maximum benefit from your mods but more importantly to keep withing the safety limits of your engine and gearbox giving you solid and reliable performance.
Have you changed the injectors to 440cc (Yellow tops). If not those 380's are going to run out of fuel long before the 16G runs out of puff!! 550's would be a better match for the the 16G but 440's will do fine and make very decent power.
I'd recommend running an uprated MAP sensor as well from a V.3 or V.4 Classic because when mapped it's highly likely you'll exceed the limitations of the std MAP sensor as you'll be boosting over 1.2bar.
What you have so far is very good. Just a couple more hardware changes and you'll be ripe for a remap.
There's nothing std ECU can't do with an ESL 'Live' remap solution.

I've replied because you posted that you were fitting....
"just going to fit a td05 16g turbo ,,autobarn f/m intercooler ,,blitz nurspec cat back ,,apollo induction with intake sticking out of the fog light cover ,,and a apexy de resernator to maff."
I took you seriously so i replied seriously!!
Add the MAP sensor and Injectors to that and you have the makings of a bloody quick car. Put it this way...you could make a comparison between your old capri and the Subaru as the difference between a Saturn 5 Rocket and the Starship Enterprise!!
Before buying a Subaru you should have looked properly into the real cost of modding. To most of the scooby owners on scoobynet the things you say you're going to fit and the extra bits i've recommended are par for the course and not regarded as overly expensive, more the norm really although you could spend the price of a small mortgage if you wanted.
It gets expensive when you start talking about engine/gearbox rebuilds, big turbo's etc... Otherwise most subaru bolt-ons are generally very affordable. If you think Subaru bolt ons are expensive you should look at Nissan and Toyota.
If you want to do things on the cheap don't buy a Subaru....stick to an oldskool ford

I agree very much with the above,i use to mod my 2.0 ltr capri, with twin 40 dellorto's,4 branch manifold ,peco backbox,k & n air filter ,etc .But that was "23 YEARS AGO"
These mods if bought brand new would cost pretty close to £2000,even in the used 2nd hand market they would cost close to half that.So you got no chance of doing it on a tight budget.
Thats not to say modding your car has to be expensive,my alloys wheels with tyres cost me £85.00(oz superleggera;s - mint),afterburner vortex backbox £60,sti strut brace £40.00,and countless other bits i have bought just by looking in the right places at the right time.
If you really on a tight budget maybe the impreza might not fit your bill as these cars even when driven steadily drink fuel, and at times you cant believe it has a 60 ltr fuel tank.(seems the size of a zippo)
But when you drive them hard ,and start giving them plenty, the car drinks fuel like an alcoholic at a free bar.
Sometimes when you cut corners on buying performance items it can cost you dearly, just something to bear in mind.
