fan belt slipping
i have an my 02 sti and when cold starting my fan belt(S) sound like a cat being strangled, then when revs pick up it stops, also when i turn steering wheel sometimes the steering goes heavy and it screeches.is it just a case of change the belt and tighten up a bit? cheers folks and happy xmas to you all.

Shouldn't need to change the belt, just tighten it a dab. Simple to do - loosen the two alternator retaining bolts, tighten the tensioner bolt half a turn, tighten the other two back up and see if you've done enough.
Also well worth getting some belt dressing from a local engineering supplies place and spraying some of that on. Will prevent the belt ageing as well as preventing slippage.
Do not spray WD40 or any other general lubricant - will make things worse.

Had same on me 03 WRX. Got em changed and you could see the cracks as the belts had worn. I had the same power steering issues Been ok since.
I changed both the belts. Correction, RCM changed em! LOL. I bought em.
