hey folks,

been having a few problems, when the car is quite cold i find it hard to go from 3rd to 2nd and even 2nd to first ven at 5mph

now i dont force it in but when its warmed up i.e the gearbox oil its okay but not the best

could anyone recommend a decent gearbox oil that could sort this problem

or is there something alot worse

mine 05 wrx is like that, a right **** when its cold, but fine when warm

 

Castrol Syntrax is a popular choice in Imprezas, Motul Gear 300 is another to coinsider. If that doesn't sort it out, you could try the Redline Lightweight shockproof

75w-90 Gear oil

I have an 03 WRX that has now done 89k miles. 18 months ago I changed from Silkolene to the Castrol Syntrax and definitely noticed it was better. I have always struggled to get in reverse and i have had the car from new.
Some other changes are a pain until the oil has warmed up anyway.
I would suggest trying the Syntrax. It took away the 'notchiness' i was feeling before.

 

My 04 blob is a **** to get into reverse and sometimes 1st from 2nd.

Now iv read this post I realise it does do it mainly when cold. Was thinking gearbox was on way out but then it has always been like this.

 

thats what i thought with mine but im deffo gonna swap the oil over and see how it is just crap when cold but when warm its near spot on

 

as above i switched to syntrax and although its not totally smooth when cold> It is much better>

When warm its much smoother> cant tell you what was in prior to the change though.
