Default 3 port

Is it worth fitting a 3 port boost solenoid on an 03 wrx when having it mapped. Car is running std TD04 with all supporting mods inc. sti intercooler.

Thanks

not got a mapper next, maybe you, depends who offers me best deal after xmas. Have decat uppipe, ppp downpipe and centre decat, de resonated centre section ppp backbox. Spec c intercooler and scoop and undertray. Green panel filter. was just deciding where to go from here. Any help appreciated. Already flashed with ppp map. But need to get it running better as this map I am told is very rich. Will I notice a good increase after custom mapping?

Thanks
Darren

A 3 port can help retain some of the boost high up in the rev range and help initial spool up but it isnt 100% essential.

Hardly worth it for the TD04, it tails off at the top end anyway. Won't do any harm if you're planning on going VF later on though.

My WRX was mapped a couple of weeks ago and was fine with the standard item, I have a FMIC and 18G to go on next and my mapper suggested that a boost controller was not needed but recommended the 3 port solenoid.

You should squeeze 17-17.5psi out of a TD04. Any more will just turn it into a toaster!!

Perhaps the 3-port isn't a bad idea. You'll need to adjust the wastegate arm up a bit because i'm pretty certain 80%-90% WGDC won't get you above 15-16psi from std.
Between 1 and 2 turns should do it.

That's the sound of the solenoid switching on and off (i.e. working).

best offer cost wise or end result?
cheaper is not always better

yes should see more at higher rpm and a big gain in torque roughly upto 280bhp and 280lb torque.

You would have thought that the prodrive is a good one as they are straight plug and play (with the loom adaptor all supplied). However, they don't make them anymore though - now made by pierburg in germany and quite a lot of money. But you may find one second hand.

3 port from a classic works well (i run one on mine still) and can be picked up quite cheap on ebay or on here.

Turbosmart 3 port is good as is the Perrin one.

I tend to have a couple in the kit bag already wired up in case they are needed (as do others I am sure)

Prodrive never "made" their solenoid, it was always supplied to them by Pierburg and simply distributed in a white box with the wire adapter. The only thing that has changed is that P. have stopped distributing it.

As for not being available, the solenoid is still made and can still be bought from Pierburg distributors. Tactrix are selling them in the States, complete with the loom adapter, and I bought a brand new one here in the summer. I believe I'm correct in thinking that exactly the same solenoid is used in cars from other manufacturers and so may be available off the shelf somewhere, will do some digging.
