Default Drove car to garage it was fine, now need new bottom end

As I said drove my03 wrx to the garage thought it was fine pulling well sounding fine was getting an upgraded turbo injector, intercooler fuel pump and was expecting it back today, until they phoned to say that on the dyno it was not putting out the power it should and after they investigated it now needs a new bottom end which you know is expensive where do I stand here

Been reading about that plase in the other thread, such bad luck you didn't see it before going there mate.

My bottom end went in my blob wrx a few months back, you'll be looking at £3k+ for a rebuild, second hand bare engines are around £1k-£1.5k from a breakers.

I got lucky and managed to buy an engine and box off ebay as a package for £1200 and as it turned out it was a good engine. It then cost me £450 to have fitted including new cambelt etc.

You get piece of mind with a rebuild whereas if you buy a second hand engine it's always a risk as you don't know the condition of it, just depends how much money you have to spend.

good luck with it all mate i feel your pain lol

It's a decent garage Subaru/evo specialist but you still have don't know, they say it's just starting to go it's not thuding away yet what ever that means I suppose they could have just gave me it back and let it blow up a few months down the line,

This could have been on its way out anyway and the modifications could have just shortened the cars life, not a good thing anyway but it means that you know you have to rebuild that engine, probably with better parts

Going to go through and speak to the garage tomorrow and try and figure out my options but I know whatever happens it's not going to be cheap and I've still got to pay for the labour on the upgrades that downgraded my car massively

Isn't the issue here that it happened at the garage? Aren't they liable?

Nope, but then again it could have been on its way out to start with and even then.... if for instance they rebuilt the engine and 50 miles down the road with careful driving it went bang due to their workmanship and you prove that, then they are, but bringing in a car and saying "tune this wtih these parts etc" and they dont know how that car is running to start with or has been treated then they are not liable for it (and as said, tuning is hit n miss, things can just go bang).

To think, if you know your engine isnt running well and you reset your ecu and take it down to a garage and get them to fit some parts and it goes bang, bargain build for nothing! so they dont have any liability

Tony, im with you here albeit a horrid conclusion. I think for all others reading this and the man who posted it; The moral to the story is to take your car to reputable garages or put the car in hands of those that know what they are doing. Its all too easy to make a what should a bullet proof
engine vunerable with one trusty spanner and a novice mechanic.

I dont want to start again with this conversation, but for those who know of it; Andy Hughes is a classic case!!!

Its a tricky one if you have just left it with them, guess you just have to take their word for it.
Thats one good reason why I always like to have the customer present when mapping, then he/she can see exactly whats happening to their car.
