Ran out ov petrol yesterday, put a Petrol can ov 97 unleaded in the tank to get me to the garage, since then major problems. Car waz running perfect before then. Some times fuel pump aint starting, & wen it does & the car starts, idles all over the place & wun rev ova 2000rpm. also alot ov black smoke from exhaust. Think its Air flow meter, but changed it bou 4 months ago, cudnt hav gon again cud it???

Not sure, might be worth checking the fuel filter is okay, maybe take the pump out of the tank and check the sock is okay. Mate of mine had a similar problem, car wouldn't rev over 3000, turned out to be a collapsed fuel filter restricting fuel flow above a certain point. Black smoke would suggest over-fuelling though, so not sure.

How is substituting one letter for another i.e. ov (of) short term?
With regards to your problem it sounds like you have sucked all the crap from the bottom of the tank through. First thing to check would be take the fuel pump out and check the sock isn't bunged up with sludge. Next I would be filling up with some 99 octane and doing an ecu reset and see how you get on.

I know this might sound dull, but how do I reset the ECU? Is it by just disconnecting the battery & then reconnecting it?
Today ive switched the MAF with an old 1 in my shed to see if that made a difference but its exactly the same. Ive also took off the fuel filter & that's totally clean.
Haven't checked the Fuel pump yet tho.
May as well wait till Friday now when my mate is coming down to lug into it & have a look!
Thanx 4 all your Help. Any other ideas then please let me know. Thanx!
