Just keep hearing different opinions all the time!
Just thinking is it worth pay more for an sti bottom end if it's only the pistons that are better.

Just to clarify classic STI, Classic WRX and Classic UK Turbo 2000 rods are the same.
Newage rods are different to the classic rods and are stronger. There is no difference between Newage wrx and newage STI rods.

Click the search button or pop onto Scoobypedia because the answer to your question has already been written a load of times. Also depends which classic engines you're comparing too as there are significant technical differences through the car's life.

I'll say again for the purpose of clarity.
All classic rods are the same whether you have a WRX, turbo 2000 or an STI.
Newage rods are stronger than classic rods. If you have a newage WRX then you will have exactly the same rods as someone with a newage STI or someone with a Spec C etc.
The only differences between STI and WRX engines (mechanically) are with the heads, cams, lifters, and in some cases pistons.

Thanks very much for your reply daz - that's very interesting as ive just got a very very cheap low mileage 53 plate bottom end that's thrown a bearing, was going to use the heads and stick them on an sti bottom end but maybe ill pop a new crank in with some omega pistons my mate has for sale.
