Default help! check engine light!

hiya people my dads check engine light has come on in his uk wrx 2002, ive read the handbook and it says its something to do with emissions is this right ???? and is it safe to drive ??? thanks people

It could be a number of different things, not just emissions You`ll have to get a fault code reader and find out what the fault is, then take it from there.

My one also came on but went off after a few hours..I took it in for a service but they said unless the light was on they can't do anything about it.I have also read that this could also be down to the petrol cap !...Yes it's safe to drive but I would get it checked if it doesn't go off,but then I would still get it looked at anyway.

That's not true. You can read historic codes with the correct reader.

The CEL is to give warnings, warnings mean something is wrong, if you know the code fault and it will not cause an issue then OK but I would personally get the fault fixed ASP.

You need to use an OBD reader (either laptop or special device) on newages.
