Default What Octane Fuel - WRX

Hi all,
I have a 2002 WRX no mods except a catback exhaust and a DV.
Can I run this car on "normal" unleaded?
84k miles on the clock.
Thanks.

You can but your not going to get the best you "could" potentially get out of it. But it will run yes.

Honestly will it make that much difference on a car that is running about 190bhp if that?
Will I notice?
Will it knock?
I notice in the manual it says 95 octane.

Depends on what it's used in the past - if it's always used 95 then no your probably not going to notice much difference unless you repalce fuel filter etc etc. But if it's previously had 98 or 99 in it, then yes you would notice the difference.

So, worth trying 95 then, I have owned for a week and put 99 in but don't want to waste money by putting higher grade fuel than I need to.
Are you saying that if the Engine has got used to the higher grade I will notice a difference even though the manual suggests 95 Octane.
Bit confused here !!!!
I fill up 10 times a month.

Bugeye WRX runs about 215 PS

The Newage Denso ECU learns pretty well and will reduce the IAM (ignition advance multiplier) if it senses det using the lower octane. Conversely it will advance ignition and produce more power with higher octane

If you are just running about then you will not notice the difference...........
