Default PULSING/THROBBING FEELING FROM ENGINE

Hi all,
Just bought a 51 2002 BUGEYE on 84k miles, drove fine on test drive and driving for the next few days but from Tuesday of this week something feels wrong.
Symptoms;
No Engine lights
when I start the engine (from cold or warm) it sounds rough and like a pulsing feeling through the exhaust also extra vibration through the steering wheel and gearknob.
Sounds a bit like a Lawnmower.
in 4th 30 mph is difficult to mantain, 3rd is easier.
around 70mph in 5th does not seem to accelerate with foot on the floor.
Sometimes when I start it, it doesn't sound rough at all and seems to drive better.
Sorry for waffling, it is quite hard to explain.
Could it be a Coilpack?
Any ideas?

Sounds like it might be missing a cylinder, yes. If in doubt get it looked at without any delay, just in case it's something more fundamental.

it's booked in for tomorrow, just trying to get a heads up.
If a Coil pack is breaking down, can it work sometimes but not other times?

So many potential causes for this that you might be more confused after a thread like this than having never started one! All you need is 10 different owners with a broadly similar set of symptoms and you'll probably hear 10 different explanations - and quite probably none of them will apply exactly to your situation.

Yes, it can. Most important thing is that you're not driving around on it any longer than absolutely necessary. Let us know how the check-up goes.

Much better shell out on that now than lay out a much bigger number further down the road - which you'd probably end up doing if you continue driving on a dodgy airflow sensor.

Good to hear it's sorted.
