Default Heellpppp!!! Squeal driving me mad!!!!

Hi guys I've got a really loud squeal coming from my my2000 turbo. It's been getting louder for a while now. But now it's so loud I can hear it over the radio!!

If I apply a small amount of brake not even enough to slowthe car it dissapears any ideas??

You quite often get a stone caught between the brake disc and the plate that protects the rear of the disc. Remove the wheel from the offending side and have a look.

I have the same problem with mine from time to time. Take the pads out and add a bit of copper grease to the back of the pads and refit. This usually sorts mine out for a while but well worth checking the face of the pad for a small stone or fragment of debris.

if the pad's are new they may not have been installed with squeal pads, they are a thin plate that sits between the pad it's self and the caliper.

make sure you have those installed, and as Adman say's,apply some copper slip grease to the backs of them.

It obviously seem's like a brake issue, have the wheels off and have a look around, can't be too hard to find the problem.

Are you sure its not coming from the engine area?
If the fan belt is too loose it'll squeal. Have you had to fiddle with the alternator tensioner recently?

Its likely to be the belt running on the alternator, you need to tension it so you can twist the belt about 90 degrees with your thumb and finger.
Loosen the nut at the front b4 you looen the one at the top (long bolt)

Did you use new retaining clips on the pads? maybe they're not fitted straight?

Thinking about it maybe the pads are catching the disc. Is one side hotter than the other after a long run? that'd explain the funning tracking feeling too?

Thanks,

I just downloaded a service manual so i'll take a look at it tommorow,I've been squirting a little oil on the pulleys every now and again which solves it...for a few hours. So I'm hoping the belt is too tight,or too loose.

Thanks,
