2005 intercooler upgrade
Hi i have a 2005 blob eye wrx, was looking to upgrade my intercooler, but wish to keep it a topmount as my total power output goals will be around 330bhp. i will be fittig a sti scoop and undertray and fitting a water spray system.
My question is has anyone used any of the following?
AB88 Top Mount Intercooler Subaru Impreza 02-06 Scooby Subaru Impreza Turbo Parts STi WRX Lancer EVO Manifolds Turbo Intercoolers - Flat4online.co.uk
or
Subaru Impreza New Age Top Mount Intercooler --- Japspeed Performance Parts
What do u think ?
or should i get a second hand sti intercooler ?

If you are going to change the IC, STi9 or STi7/8 is the thing to go for.
However, given your bhp target, it's a very good question as to whether you need to change at all. The 01-05 WRX IC is pretty good - exactly the same design as the STi just a little smaller. I'd be tempted to stick with it and save yourself a couple of hundred quid, unless whoever you choose to map the car has a specific problem with charge air temps.
If you'd said 350-360+ as a power goal then the STi IC makes more sense, so your future plans are a key point.
Wouldn't bother with the waterspray either, makes very little difference, especially if you go for a manual "button only" system. Needs to be automatic and demand-driven to be worthwhile. Get the STi bonnet scoop tho as these do make a difference.

Definitely. The moulded plastic one is awful. Decent silicone or STi cast one much better - and much less likely to burst.

If you're sticking with the WRX intercooler for the time being at least, you don't want the STi undertray as it's the wrong size - as you say, won't fit properly.
Certainly no reason not to experiment a bit with the air deflector on the WRX one tho.
