It seems to be running very rich and when i press the clutch, it idles at 2000rpm.

On the basis of the amount of information given, very little in the way of suggestions, but plenty of questions.

Is the "new" engine a like for like replacement (i.e. coming out of the same model and MY it's gone into)?

Does the idle speed alter at all between the engine being stone cold and fully up to temp?

Is the "new" engine standard - or, looking it at it the other way, have you ruled out anything obvious like aftermarket injectors or fuel pressure regulator?

If you have a 98MY or earlier is it possible one of the idle speed control valve air pipes is off?

Any Check Engine light activity when the engine is running?

its a 96 classic , same ecu and engine - like for like.

Engines standard , standard injectors.

If you let it sit for a couple minutes the revs will drop to 1100rpm - hot or cold

no check engine light - car seems to be driving ok.
