Default cambelt tensioner question?

looking at completing a cam belt change on a uk 2000 turbo. would it have Hydrolic tensioner or bearing tensioner ????

as i have been told two different things

They are both Hydrolic, but you have the latest type as fitted to all turbo's from 98my through to the current model.

Some people call these "bearing tensioners" I beleive, as they have an idler bearing as part of the tensioner.

It's not hydraulic in the normal sense of the word, ie it doesn't work on engine oil pressure. It's spring loaded with a very viscous fluid internally to dampen. It is installed compressed with a retaining pin. Once installed the pin is removed and the spring tensions the belt. This is the only actual tensioner, the other idler wheels guide the belt.
If you intend to re-use the original tensioner, it must be compressed SLOWLY taking a minimum of 3 or 4 minutes in an upright position (can't remember actual figure) and a pin inserted to hold it in place for installation.
