Difficult to work out what's going on from your post.

Are you telling us that it idles fine when at a standstill, but races when the car is actually moving, or that, even when fully warm, the engine races when your foot is off the throttle?

Also are you saying that when you unplugged the speed sensor and the car "drives fine", are you telling us that the engine speed issue seems to be fixed?

sorry for my vauge post im new to all this

car does accelerate itself when foot off throttle

it idles funny anyway due to cams but im sure that wouldnt cause the car to accelerate on its own

and when moving if you drop the clutch it will rev up a couple of times and then settle

hope this is clearer sorry

Why do you say that? Does this car have non-standard cams? What specific model of "99 classic" is it, and are there any modifications you're aware of?

It shouldn't. First thing to check would be that the throttle cable is adjusted properly, fully located in the mechanism and is actually shutting completely when your foot is off.

Beyond that, there are any number of possible explanations, and if, as it sounds, you're a bit new to this, the quickest way of getting to a solution is to take it to your nearest Subaru specialist or main dealer, or back to the garage you bought it from.

hope this is clearer sorry
You've given us a better idea of what's going on but it doesn't make it significantly easier to explain. Does the Check Engine light come on at all when the engine is running btw?

ok yes very new to this

it has had aftermarket cams unsure of which
coswrth pistons
titanium rods
FMIC
k&N induction cone
straight through exhaust

it does not have any error lights come on dash

the best way i can explain how it feels is like driving a car with cruiise control on
the car seems to accelerate a liitle then hold
i have unplugged speed sensorr as someone advised on a nother club and car accelerates fine but only to 4k revs
i have owned turbos all my driving life but never experienced this
and i got the car private sale not from a garage

thanks again

Get it looked at by someone who knows and is competent to work on modified Imprezas, we can't help you. It might help to tell us where you are, and, if you know, who built and mapped the car, but beyond that, we're in the dark.

We have no possible way of knowing (or helping you work out) via the internet whether the car is running "normally" within the confines of whatever specification and map it's running, whether there's a minor problem, or whether there's a serious problem.

You obviously need to know - and if you can't see anything obvious, you need it looked at, end of.
