Yes straight in without a doubt, no problems at all.

 

Is the engine a close deck block?

 

No - It's not a closed deck block.

 

Then what is it?

 

Its fully open deck.

Which one is the best to hold lost of power,the Open or the closed deck block?

Does it make a difference? Unless your going 500+ bhp either engine's block will suffice (and the chances are your 93 block is closed deck) but the internals on both the stated engines are weak, then there is the gearbox, brakes, intercooler etc etc etc, so how much power are you after as it won't be cheap to get it out of those engines.

You understand that 400bhp will set you back around 10k+ to do properly on a classic?

Engine including build/parts will set you back around 3-3.5k, gearbox (as yours wont last) will be (full ppg one costs about 5k new or 2nd hand one/6 speed at 2.5k ish), so 6k there, fmic, oil cooler (recommended), turbo, injectors etc etc etc, brakes, new after market ecu as the old one will be struggling, so another 4k there, and there is probably more to go on that, or do what most other people do, buy a new age sti, turbo, injectors etc, car will be about 8-9k, plus about 3k's worth of mods

sorry to hijak a little, but is there a way of telling if engines are closed or open deck without taking the heads off?

which models come with what sorta thing?

 

Closed deck blocks were pretty much the early phase 1 engines, from 92/93, after that they went open deck with the exception of the 2.2ltr 22B engine, new age cars (STI's) are all semi closed deck and all the rest are open.
But just because its a closed deck block, dont expect it to be stronger, you need the internals uprating for it to come into its own really, and then only after serious power increases (500bhp+)
There are ways to tell, I shall see if I can find them, or have a little search on here
