It sure sounds like coolant temp sensor. Could also be damp like SCOOBYDOO3105 has mentioned. Check HT leads etc for water or dampness.

does it struggle to start and idle too low for a few seconds when cold? if so, me and scooby87 had a similar problem, we both tried coolant temp sensor which did not work. ive swapped from tesco99 to v power and the problems gone.
just an idea for you.
things to try:
coolant temp sensor.
idle control valve (clean out)
try different fuel.

complete failure of the coolant temp sensor would result in ENGINE light coming on. if its deteriating but not failed you wont get a cel.

It seems to start ok runs for about 30-60 secs then seems to miss, stinks of fuel, if you hold it above 2500rpm its ok. After about 5 mins of driving/when temp goes up all is fine. Im already running on v power. If coolant temp sensor dont sort it I will have a look at the idle control valve.

Thanks for your replies.

Which year car do you have? Help people to help you.

If you have coil packs and not plug leads, then they would be the 1st thing I'd be checking.
