Default loud tapping/ratterling nosie from engine.

hey all took the car for a spin yesterday on full boost for about 2 miles, and today when i took it out theres a very loud ratterling nosie coming from the engine and it gets louder going up the revs and it seems to of lost alot of power and i drove it and it stalled and lost power pulling upto a roundabout today, so i got it recovered home any ideas???

Depends who you go to and what you want done (you could go for forged bits) since you're down south speak to Alan at www.enginetuner.co.uk as he's very close to you.

oil starvation is a major culprit too.just takes a split second of dry running especially at full boost for the bearing to 'pick up'and the damage is done.you could source a second hand bottom end but its a gamble wether you are getting a good one unless you go to a reputable dealer.ive found grade a subaru to be a good dealer.

they have an sti engine for £800 complete.still alot o money to spend but you could sell old one for spares and claw some money back!!

Or get an engine from somebody who's breaking when you can see & hear it running. Then sell yours and re-new water/Oil pumps and timing kit....

i'm on my 2nd engine rebuild this year, doing all the work myself its costing £1000, replacing crank, con-rods, bearings, head gaskets and stretch bolts, would hate to think what a garage would charge!!!

yeah i know but i dont know what im doing and i just dont have the free time for it, i am really upset that the engine is knackered cuss i really like that car i'll probs sell it in the near future, because its costing me to much and im having other troubles with my life at the moment i might have to claim it on my insurance.

that is defo big ends. the classics can suffer oil pump failure due to the screws coming loose on the back of the pump. not saying it is that but its one posibility. other posibilities are low oil level, wrong oil or det due to wrong fuel or bad mods.

I feel for you mate, can get you down bigtime when your pride and joy breaks.

But like someone else said, best bet is a 2nd hand motor, then go to RCM and get a new water pump and modified oil pump for piece of mind .

totally understand. same happened to my version 5 last month. getting it rebuilt as we speak. upon further inspection, thankfully it was only my crankshaft, so its not costing as much as a full rebuild. still a pain in the **** though!

Sorry to hear about that m8 i am always dreading my car going the same way as i use it as a daily driver for work etc and it is 13 years old now.

As another option you could claim on the insurance as my brother did just that when he drove his vxr through a deep puddle due to all the flooding up in scotland. He got a new engine eventualy after a long wait and has a local garage to carry out the work.

Or you could break the car up and sell for spares

mate dont give up... mine went, so i bought another scoob that was t boned, i heard the engine running befor i payed the £500 for it. changed the engine my self and the money i got from all the other parts of the donor car covered the cost of the £500. so basicly it cost me nothing but time and knuckles. most on here will say dont do it but if your not loaded like most on here you have no other choice!
