Default Con rods

I'm on a rebuild of my engine that suffered crank failure. I have all the parts for the rebuild (except the turbo) but on taking my con rods out one of them has some of the shell welded to it so I need a new rod! I'm only building this back up to standard spec so I only want standard rods.
The thing is I can get wrx rods but sti ones are not available to me at the moment, so I was wondering if it was ok to use them?
Is there any difference in using the wrx rods in my 96 sti????
Or could I get another rod with the same number on it from one engine and get the cap with the same number from different engine & match them up?

Rods are the same for the classic sti/wrx/uk turbo, for the money I would upgrade them tbh.

So there is no massive weight difference?

No difference, thats the big weak spot on classics and why you shouldnt run more than about 350bhp, they normally just snap and put a big hole in your block

I meant weight difference between wrx and sti rods.
I'm building this back to sti standard spec except for an AFP turbo, decat pipe and filter so shouldn't be more than 290 bhp?
I will be remapping but then I will prob only get maybe another 40 from that? So standard rods will be fine?

A cheaper option would be a set of late (STi version 7 onwards) OEM 'bolt' type rods - they hold together better than the classic 'nut' type (chocolate) rods.

As has been said Steve, there is NO difference between wrx/sti & uk rods, they are all the same I.E the same part number.

You cant use the cap from one rod on another........ they are machined as a unit.......and you must mark all your caps and rods on disassembly to stop getting the caps mixed up mate
(unless they're prenumbered by the manufacturer)
