Default Wet passenger carpet

We had very heavy rain last night and when i popped outside a bit ago i noticed the inside of the windscreen had lots of condensation on it, checked the carpets and found the passenger one to be wet.

I felt around and noticed that it seemed to be coming from behind the glovebox area. Is there any drainage channels that when blocked can let water overflow into the car? I did take it for a quick drive yesterday and had the blowers on full blast could this have caused anything to spring a leak ie: heater matrix, but would it be leaking from behind the glovebox?

I had a leak on my wagon which got the passenger carpet wet, turned out to be a big grommet on the bulkhead where the heater matrix pipes enter the car. Somehow it had popped out slightly. Had a lovely pool in the footwell after a heavy downpour.

Took ages to dry it out as all the sound proofing stuff gets soaked and holds it.

Has the windscreen been changed? if it has then its probably that causing the leak - had the same fault on mine.

Only bought it recently and nothing in the history of windscreen changes.

I'll have to take the carpets out and have a good search around inside and out of the car to have a look for any drainage channels that could be blocked or grommits that may have popped off.

Have found the leak and it's coming from the big black box thats behind the glove box, very slow leak on it's own but once the heater blowers are going the leak increases.

Am i right in guessing that the heater matrix is in there somewhere? or is it located in the middle(behind) the dash board?

Thats where my leak was coming from but it was the screen. This sounds strange but dip your finger in the water & taste it, if its sweet then its engine coolant & the heater matrix is leaking, if not then its coming from outside, ie rainwater. Hope that helps.

I checked all round and got my hands as far up around the top of it and it's dry as far as i can feel.

it's definately coming from inside it, when the cars not started there is a drip every few minutes but once you start the car and get the fans on, it drips every 10 seconds or so.

Have found a pic from another thread of where the leak is coming from. On the right handside with the silver bit on top of it, the leak is coming form around the area with the circular bit at the bottom.

Should there be any coolant flowing around that area?, could it be coolant leaking from the matrix and the condensation building up in there?, or is it likely to be a leak somewhere else above that?

Pic is from a left hand drive car so the bit i'm mentioning will be on the left handside.

Car is a Uk 95 turbo wagon.

Any help appreciated.

What is that circular thing?

Mine did the exact same thing 1 day last week. However it hasnt done it since. Its pure water so isnt the matrix.

I'm guessing that's where the fan for the blowers is situated, can't understand why water would be leaking from there, other than water coming in from on top of it and then leaking out of the bottom.

I thort the same but cant find a leak anywhere. Bottom of the windscreen seems dry. Its very difficult to find out what it is without removing the whole lot. Fingers crossed mine stays dry as I am at a bit of a loss.

I'm willing to put money on it being the windscreen leaking. did you "taste" the water like I mentioned above?

Haven't used the car yet, insured on it from saturday. Had it insured for a day a few weeks back and thats when i noticed the leak. We have had a lot of rain recently and the carpets are dry so will find out over the weekend if it happens when running.

Under the carpet probably isn't dry though & that is what you should be concerned about.

Hope you find the cause.
