Safe boost?? year 2000 classic 2L turbo
Hi all,
I am running a standard set up at mo,the last owner set the boost at 14 PSI / 0.9 bar,i have seen various figures being banded around the forum so I thought I would ask the quessie and hope for a safe answer from someone who knows there stuff lol. First off what kinda difference would it make if i tweaked it up a bit?? Second off, is it SAFE to do so?? It has an adjustable controller on so easy to do. Thanks in advance! Jim

Thats pretty much standard boost, safe (depending on any mods) is probably around the 1.2bar mark, but its also advisable to run a knock sensor of some sort (KS3/4 or a knocklink).

Safe mode eh? ****! Sounds expensive so just to clarify what is standard boost on a uk turbo? I think the lambda sensor may be fooked could this be the culprit?

map tweak? boost controller?
i ran 1.2 bar on mine with, hks induction kit, 2.5 turbo back magnex, a HKS fuel cut defencer and a HKS air fuel ratio adjuster, and to be fair it was quite rapid!

no no no no!
don;t just tweek it up a bit, you'll throw a piston out the side of the engine. mate's lad bought a car, was very quick. had a manual boost controller on it. he put it on the dyno the day he got it to make sure all was running right. it wasn't. the operator did half a run and refused to run it again untill it was sorted because of how dangerous the AFR's were.
Boost/fuel cuts are there to protect the engine, removing them is a bit like being on top of a tall building and removing the handrail around the edge of it.
only safe way to up the boost is map it, simle as. the mapper will push the car as far as he/she sees safe to do so. some cars take more boost and timing than others.
get it mapped properly or you'll be asking 'where can i get my engine rebuilt'
