Red face Can I fit full decat without remap ?

Can I fit a full decat exhaust without remap ? New Sti hatch 08 model.

Cant afford both at the same time....

Can I have the exhaust for now and run happily and SAFELY until Christmas ?

I cant see why it would / could effect the air fuel mixture BUT HEY I dont know 'jack' ...

'Some garages' say you MUST remap. Some say its OK not to....

So some GOOD advice please fellow snets

Cheers

Anything you do to your car will invalidate the warranty so take heed before you do anything.

As for decatting and no remap, really not advisable, it wont be safe and it probably will lead to damage (normally terminal) and you with a big bill
At this stage your best off going for the PPP if you want a performance upgrade

Yours isnt a new age sti which have a tendancy (all the time) to boost spike when decatted (which isnt a good idea)

I dont care if your classics are fine, this is a NEW AGE STI, its totally different to the classics, it WONT BE FINE if you decat it, they spike and kill the engines which is in most cases more than the cost of a classic

Tony

PS, if you think your cars running fine, get a KS3 fitted, you may be shocked!

I was advised that the 2.5ltr is particularly prone to boost spikes when decatted and not remapped. Not sure what the truth is but when an expert tells me to get it remapped, that's what I did. Waste of time doing without the remap anyway as you aren't getting the best out of the modification.

I know lots of people who run classics decatted without a remap but as stated they are different cars despite having the same name.

The only turbo imprezas that I would and have fitted decats to without mapping with no problems are the pre facelift classics. The ecu will learn to a certain extent on these models, or so I was told.

I now have a 97sti and it won't be decatted until I can afford to get all the bits done that I want and get it mapped at the same time.

Thanks guys.... I had thought that maybe it wasn't a wise move but had heard of a couple of peeps who had done this for an 'undisclosed' amount of time with no problems.

I guess I'd be mad to do it.... so full decat and remap is the only advisable way forward... and everyones happy ?

If I got a decat, sti injectors and walbro fuel pump fitted on my newage would it even drive to the nearest mapper garage?

I had a walbro fitted to an evo IV once and it drove like **** before going on the rollers.
