Default help needed water problem

hi people in need of your help once again.my mate has a 95 wrx sti,
recently had a full rebuild around 500miles ago, however he has been having problems with his boost,so today he changed his acutator on the turbo.took it for a spin five mins later there was white smike lots of it coming out of the car exhaust so he turned it of.went to start it few mins later and the car engine just locked and would not turn over.so thinking it was the turbo he removed the down pipe to check the blades inside and as he turned it over.water was coming out of the turbo think it was from the blade area and lots of water not just a little. so we removed the turbo compleatly and turned it over again and it was like a gushing tap coming out from the up pipe.
so is it the turbo that has got problems.filling the downpipe ect up with water it turns over freely now we have cleared all the water out of the car.but befoer fitting a new turbo want to make sure it is the turbo that is at fault and nothing else kind regards

how is the best bet of going around checking if it the head gasket.

This happened in my saab when the head gasket went - water gets into the cylender chamber/s and as water is not compressible the engine won't turn. You should avoid turning it over like this as you could damage something.

the engine turns over freely now. as stated we removed the turbo turned it over and it just pumped all the water out through the up pipe lots came out but now its all clear but surely it would of mixed with the oil if that was the case

doody
There's only two ways water could have got into your up-pipe, really. It either leaked down there from the turbo, or it leaked 'up' there from the heads. Quickest way of ruling out the heads as the problem would probably be to fit a known working turbo back on and see if you get any more water in there.
