intercooler (if you have top mount)
heat shields
downpipe.
clamp water lines. and then 3 bolts that hold the turbo to uppipe.

you have no need to remove up pipe. and its pretty straight forward

Sheesh, are you sure you're going to be changing the turbo this time? Turned into a right saga this has.

Counterproductive removing the up-pipe. You can get to the three bolts needed fine with the turbo in the car. Wobble extension on your socket wrench makes it easy. Don't forget to drain down the coolant first or you'll get very wet, and a very long, spindly set of pliers makes the oil return hose clip a non-problem.

i dont think there is enough space at the bottom to remove this unless you drop the headers as well

No. You need to remove the three nuts securing the turbo to the up-pipe, then the two (or is it three?) more securing the up-pipe to the mounting brackets as well as the pair securing it to the exhaust manifold at the bottom.

If you want to pull it out from underneath you'll need the right-hand branch of the exhaust manifold off too - and even then, if it's a standard pipe complete with heatshields, a pain to get out. May need to loosen the clamps securing the PAS lines and move them out of the way.

Edited to add: The least obstructive way to get the standard ones out is usually to rotate through 180 or so degrees and then pull it out backwards, into the space where the downpipe would be.
