Default Bug Eye not reving correctly

Hi Guys
I’ve read some of your posts and seen the great help you have given people. I would like some advice regarding my WRX bug-eyed 01. Bug is standard, but could have Superchip added. When bought I was told it had been Super chipped but have been told otherwise.
My problem is that I have a hesitation between 2k-3k rpm. Lack of power, can’t beat a *ucking thing off the lights now!
I had my cam belt changed by Autotecnica, (great service and cheap) in Buxton recently and the guy said it could be my Air Fuel Ratio Sensor. I actually live in Dartford, Kent so I can’t ask Autotecnica to look further into this problem. My question’s are
What are an Air Fuel Ratio Sensor and its location in the car?
Has anybody had this problem with their car and resolved It.?
Could a novice fix it?
Price for parts?
Is it a job for a Subaru Specialist or could a local garage fix it?
If it’s a job for a specialist, could anyone recommend a good, honest, and preferably cheap garage close to Dartford, Kent?
Please help, as I’ve got the Dagenham Essex boys up my bumpers **** now! Ford Super Tramps.

The air/fuel ratio sensor?

it could be your maf(located near the airfilter box, plugs into it just after the box)

could be a lambda sensor, 2 of, one in the exhaust manifold. one in the 2nd exhaust pipe

but it could also be your spark plugs. either to old or not gapped correctly

i'd type in google. subaru specialists in kent and see what comes up. i think there are a few near you. slowboy racing i think.

If you have no idea on mechanics leave it to someone else. you may need to plug the ecu into a diagnostics machine to see if there are any fault codes on it. Is the engine check light on? red one on dash

Im 99.9% sure you cant "chip" your ecu only remap it. Think you have been had
