Unhappy A clunk sound when gear is engaged & about to pull off

What can it be? it sounds like when saying the word 'clock' the 'l' part when your tongue claps the bottom part of your inner mouth (something we all did as a child)...sorry for the description but i can't think of another way of describing the sound. Is it the clutch bitting causing that sound? also could it mean something going to need replacing like the pressure plate?? i only hear this sound as soon as i lift the clutch & pull off. But all seems to be ok.. no slipping performance still spot on - just curious about this sound.. Any replies would be great.
ps. car is a v7 STI WRX (bugeye)
