Question sti heads?

as aboth, whats better, v3 or v4
i've always thought the v4 were, as was told by tuners

so got a set in the end, no names at all dont want anyone to think im
making issues at all. but been told that v3 heads are better
so want to know for my self in case it comes up at all.

so which ones are the best?

and how can you tell them apart?

The STi 3 and 4 heads are, for all intents and purposes, the same as far as I'm aware. I asked this question some time ago but can't recall the thread, etc... I'll try to dig it out and post up the link.

I spoke to Paul at Zen and he said that you can guarantee 440bhp from them. I believe others have managed 500bhp+ though...

i read the whole thread.

but its on about mainly the cams

sti have 2 lines
wrx line towards the end
uk line runs around the middle

as all the engines i checked had this
so, really. the only slight difference is the cam profile,
the clime has a slightly different profile

the other thing i gather, that all i throught i knew
is wrong:

its the sti v3 heads that are more agresive & the sti v4 run the same, but are more carm.thus being a better choice really.

so, from all the pics. i do have sti v4 heads, as there all marked 4!
i knew there sti as there under bucket shims & 2 lines running around the cams to the first letter & the middle.

if i've got anything wrong
please say....

or that will do

can you fit a early tentioner to the sti v4 heads?
after reading the second link????

im fitting the v4 heads to my uk classic
thanks to jgm, i found my low down power problem

i fitted sti v4 forged pistons to my uk classic, but kept my uk heads!!!
due to the mix, i dont really have a bottom end power.

jgm spent some time mapping her up & got a happy 317bhp & 313ftlb
but the bottom torque is still low

sti v4 heads should/will solve this.
i hope anyway

but just wanted to make sure this head are the v4.
and they are, after reading them threads

thanks guys

You'll have no problems with power and torque delivery once you slap on some STi 4 heads and get another JGM remap...

You can use the early or late tensioner with the STi 3 ~ 4 heads providing you use the correct mounting bracket for the particular tensioner.
Personally, i prefer the early tensioner as it has two retaining bolts - the later one has only one mounting bolt and if that shears off or the thread in the bracket pull's - it will result in a whole lot of bent valves.

Sorry to invade.

But can STi 3/4 heads be put onto a 1994 Turbo short motor? Or do they not work together?

I'm still trying to learn whats compatable with what. Lol.

Thanks

Yes - it's a common upgrade, as the v.1/2 "phase 1" manifold/ancillaries, etc, all swap over to the v.3/4 "pahse 1.5" heads, no problem.

I intend to do that on my MY93 WRX when I eventually go for 400+ bhp, as the early WRX hydraulic heads can sometimes suffer strange surging issues at around the 380bhp point...

thanks guys, its an early classic casing anyways.
and agrea regards the early tentioner too.

all im after is around 340bhp & simerler torque
im not a proper tuner or anything, but know how to do things.
its always a learning curve

lucky for me, the heads i got were completly reconditioned. scimmed you name it
got a set of 1.6mm multi layers going on. and putting a paddle clutch on too
a forged flywheel and an uprated fuel reg

and i know jgm with put a bigger smile on my face as soon as shes mapped again

i will get some pics up once all ready
nice one

lol

Seriously, put a thread out in the classified 'Wanted' section... When I asked the same question about the v.3/4 heads, I had no less than 3 members immediately offer me a set of STi 3 or 4 heads, that they had for sale.
