Default Spark Plugs & leads. Which to get n Where from?

Hi Chaps?

Can anyone recommend which sparkplugs i should get for my scoob?

its a 98 v4 STI with 3" decat (restricted to 2.5 before map), panel filter running original Jap map for now. Will be remapped in the near future with an apexi ecu.

So what plugs should i be going for? And wheres the best to get them?

I also read people re-gap the plugs when putting them in. is this necessary? are they not gapped correctly from factory? Or were people talking more of the usual precaution of just double checking the factory gapping?

Cheers

If you intend to be getting a remap later for more power, then it's best to fit the "1-level" colder NGK PFR7B jobbies (<£30 brand new).

Gap them to between 0.6-0.7mm.

The 7's have the ability to handle (dissipate away?) more heat, than the OEM-rated 6's.

So are ideal for engine running more power/combustion pressures. This can help in alleviating any det that may occur.

ahh ok thanks joz.

Are the HT leads worth uprating? Ive head the std leads are quite good? Gonna change them over too. Even if just replacing with OEM.

OEM leads work totally fine - no need to get so called 'uprated' aftermarket ones.

Also looks like they are factory gapped at 0.8mm. Should i bother adjusting them to 0.7? Whats the gains/potential problems if i leave them at 0.8 (after being checked ofc)

Cheers

Yep, they're the johnnies. That auction has now ended, though.

I found these others for £29.23 for a set of 4 delivered::-

NGK spark plug PFR7B (plugs) PFR7-B trade price 4853 on eBay (end time 28-Oct-09 13:35:26 GMT)

Gap them to 0.7mm if car is standard power. If running more power then gap to 0.6 or 0.65mm.

If the gap is too great, then at high boost the positively pressurised air can literally blow the spark out!
